7 Years of Blogging!!

Seven Years

Every so often, I like to have a little scroll through my timehops, just to see what was happening years before, and yesterday morning while I was scrolling through, I realised that I’d been blogging for 7 years!

I published my first ever blog post back on the 13th July 2010. How crazy is that?! Back then though I was a ‘style blogger’. I used to post my outfits 2-3 times a week, and spend hours browsing shops and planning outfits that I’d not worn on the blog before. It’s amazing how much blogging has changed since then, with so many people being able to make a living off of it now (and me living in jeans and t-shirts now).

So that’s something I never thought I’d share on this blog again haha! Don’t you just love my fancy blogger poses?! The first photo with the blue dress was actually my first ever blog post! Shane and I took a walk out to the fields by our house and I asked him to take some photos of me in my mums dress that I’d just stolen from her haha! Yep, Shane was my personal photographer for 2 years haha!

I first discovered blogs when I saw a girl in ASDA (I used to work there on the checkouts while I was at college) wearing a really nice denim shirt (you know, just before they came back into style), and I really loved it, so I started googling how to style a denim shirt and came across a whole load of blogs with people sharing photos of their outfits. I thought it was the weirdest thing ever! The more I looked though, the more I really liked all the outfits and then subscribed to a few. That was in the January. By July, I’d plucked up the courage to start my own blog with the help of my ‘photographer’ Shane (as much as he always used to hate it)!

I carried on my outfit posts till I got my current job 5 years ago, then I just kind of lost interest as I grew up and had less time after work to go and shoot my outfits. That’s where it kind of transitioned into a lifestyle and travel blog.

When I finally got my weekends back after starting my full time job, Shane and I were able to go to more places together, as before he had his full time job while I was at college, then at the weekends I’d be working, so we never got to go out anywhere apart from the evenings to shoot my outfits. It was so nice to go explore new places and go on more holidays together.

That’s when I had a huge redesign of the blog, changed it’s name to april everyday and put all my old posts to private (sorry guys hah). I started sharing all of the adventures Shane and I took (often with my parents too), and my love of photography really started. We started going on so many day trips, I started cooking more and sharing loads of recipes and started sharing house and garden inspiration and mini hauls as we moved into our current house next door in my parents extension.

I know there’s so many bloggers that have been blogging for only 2 or 3 years and they’re so successfull and have created businesses out of their blogs (and seriously, well done to them), but I just never really put that much effort into my blog, so I’m actually surprised that it’s done as well as it has! I mean up until a few months ago I used to literally just put a post up and hope someone would stumble across it, like it, and follow me. That was literally all I used to do, so considering I managed to get almost 300 followers over the years has amazed me haha!

I feel like I’m only just starting to put a bit of effort into my blog and social media channels and it’s definitely paying off. Who knew dedicating a bit of time and learning some new skills would actually get you somewhere?! I mean, I’m still not putting 100% effort in as working full time and blogging is such hard work! Blogging is esentially a 24/7 job if you really want to be sucessfull, or that’s what it seems like anyway. As much as I’d love to be able to quit my job and blog full time, I don’t think that’s going to be happening any time in the next few years haha!

Also, I just want to say a huge thanks to Shane (not that he’ll even read it), because without all of his amazing web development help (and for being my photographer for 2 years) and knowledge, this blog definitely wouldn’t be half as good. And I want to say a huge thanks to you guys for following along on all my adventures. It’s nice knowing that some people do actually read/look at my posts! 🙂

So that’s kind of my blogging story. What’s yours? How did you first get into blogging?

I LOVE this! I also used to have a style blog many many years ago, but my photos weren’t half as good as yours – I absolutely love the second one, you look so cute! Happy blogging anniversary!

Aw, thanks Laura! I know, I’m well known for starting things, getting bored of them and never finishing them, so I’m actually amazed that I’ve kept up blogging for so long!

I always love hearing everyone’s blogging story! I started out similarly… I stumbled across fashion blogs (I was obsessed with Fashion Toast!) and was in awe of the courage and style of these gals. Eventually I plucked up the courage to start my own + swindled my roommate into taking photos haha.

Aww haha! I love how pretty much everyone started out with fashion blogs back in the day! I love that there’s so many still going, even though they’ve evolved so much throughout the years!

Aw congrats on your seven years! Haha I set my old posts to private too :p I started my blog as more of an online diary and then discovered other blogs about 4 years ago and quickly decided to up my game a little (infinitesimally to be exact). I don’t know how people find the time to turn their blogs into such success machines but hats off to them! xxx

Haha, I was like ‘noones seeing all these outfit posts ever again’ when I rebranded. Blogging is such hard work! I’m amazed that I’ve managed to keep it going all this time to be honest with all the effort you have to put in haha (I’m the laziest)! I guess if you really really want something, you’ll make it work!
