Dubai Marina, The Walk & JBR Beach

Our hotel had the best location right by the Marina, The Walk and JBR beach, so our first day in Dubai was spent exploring the area. We started off with a little walk around the Marina before heading back to the hotel for a while to chill before dinner.

Later that day, we took a walk along Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) and The Walk to find some dinner just before sunset. The views were amazing – you can see The Palm in the distance and the Ain Dubai (the new ferris wheel that’s being built, ready to be the worlds largest, almost double the size of the London Eye). I absolutely loved seeing the city skyscraper skyline right up against the beach – being from the countryside, I love being in the city, especially at sunset.

The area comes alive at night, especially JBR and The Walk – it’s full of restaurants from The Cheesecake Factory to Ladurée practically next door. The shops are all open till late and there’s just so much going on in the area with turkish ice-cream vendors trying to sell their ice-cream, balloon sellers and a whole mini arcade on The Walk.

On our second day Shane suggested we take a speed boat trip, so we opted for the 90 minute tour around The Palm, over to the Burj al Arab and then back through the Marina. I was a little skeptical, but it ended up being SO much fun! We chose to go with Splash Tours because they were a 10 minute walk from our hotel in the marina and it was easy to book it through our hotel. You can also book it here online before you go via GetYourGuide.

The driver was so fun and stopped to give us little bits of info and facts about the area, and to take everyones photos at each stop too! Seeing The Atlantis and the Burj al Arab in real life was amazing! As a kid, I really wanted to stay at The Atlantis in The Bahamas after watching the Mary-Kate and Ashley movie that was filmed there and I never got to go, so I got to fulfill my childhood dream haha!

The Burj al Arab was actually a lot bigger than I was expecting, and as amazing as it sounds, I don’t think I’d actually want to stay there as it’s all a little too high-security, there’s no beach and the rooms don’t have balconies (I love just chilling on the balcony in the evening, anyone else?).

We’d definitely recommend the boat tour if you stop by the Marina. It’s a great way to see it all in a short amount of time, and lets face it, who doesn’t love speeding along in an inflatable boat at what feels like 1000mph?!
