This past weekend, we took another trip with my parents caravan down to Bristol to watch their annual balloon fiesta. My parents took the caravan down there on the Thursday and stayed for a couple nights till we met up with them down there on the Saturday morning for breakfast before heading off to the fiesta together. The forecast wasn’t too great for the weekend with Hurrican Bertha headed our way. Luckily the winds were pretty low on Saturday but we had on and off showers for the day.
We set up our blankets next to the main arena and enjoyed the day mooching around the stalls, eating our little hearts out from all of the food stands and watching some of the other events in the arena like the paramotors and remote control airplanes. Unfortunately, the mass balloon ascent (which we’d been excitedly waiting for all day) got cancelled just after 6pm due to a massive raincloud that was headed our way, so we decided to just call it a day and head home (after a lovely 2 hour wait to get out of the car park). Overall, it was a good day out (though Shane disagrees – his description of it was that we sat in a field like a bunch of cows all day and he now knows how they feel hahaha) and I’d definitely try and go again next year, but only if the weather forecast looks great haha!

August 14, 2014 at 10:17 pmThis probably won’t make you feel better but I go every year and it’s such a nice event, haha!
I recommend the night glow as well as the ascent. Just good fun! I love the craft tent, all the freebies and the food too!

August 14, 2014 at 10:21 pmHaha! I actually didn’t think it was that bad, it was just a shame about the weather. My parents went on the Thursday when it was clear blue skies and they really enjoyed it and stayed for the night glow too, but we’d had enough of the rain to bother staying for it haha! Hopefully next year! 🙂
